INDUSTRIAL VISITS:

CONPET S.A. provides specialized petroleum transport services through pipelines and by rail, securing the supply of the refineries with domestic and imported crude oil and derivatives. The company operates a 3800 km pipeline network covering 24 Romanian counties. The transport operations are being controlled from the Central Dispatch.

The participants learned about the characteristics of the pipelines, the security control and the role of CONPET in the 3 Romanian refineries. Time was also allocated for discussions with the general director and a visit to the operational room with demonstrations of the processes.

Petrotel-Lukoil refinery is one of the largest Romanian oil refineries and one of the largest in Eastern Europe. The visit started with a demonstration on the safety measures followed by a fake fire alarm and a show of how the firefighters act in case of an unexpected accident.

Then, the participants visited all the refining units of the company (Atmospheric Distillation, Vacuum Distillation, Fluidised Catalytic Cracker, FCC Gasoline desulphurization, Catalytic Reformer, Coker, Isomerisation Unit).

There were continuing discussions in between the lectures. The participants took keen interest in discussions and understanding new technologies as well as some information needed and that must be included in the courses we teach here in Lebanon.

On the last day all the participants responded to a feedback questionnaire on the workshop by individually answering the questions in it.

Each participant was provided an electronic copy of all the lectures given during the workshop.

Recommendations

As the GOPELC project consists of different workshops related to the Petroleum and Petrochemical fields, the participants should attend all the sessions in order to acquire all the information needed. Some modules might not be related directly to the profile of each Lebanese participant but the information are complementary and the logical sequence of the workshops will help the participant to better position himself in the field.
